Founded in 1970, İsdemir is 54 years old

İsdemir, which has made significant contributions to Türkiye's industrial and economic development, is celebrating the 54th anniversary of its establishment As Türkiye's only and largest integrated facility producing both long and flat steel, İsdemir exports products manufactured on its state-of-the-art production lines to all corners of the world.

İsdemir (İskenderun Demir ve Çelik A.Ş.), one of the OYAK Mining Metallurgy companies, provides basic inputs to a wide range of sectors, including pipe manufacturing, shipbuilding, construction, and manufacturing. Now celebrating its 54th anniversary, İsdemir has not only contributed to İskenderun but has also played a key role in the Turkish economy since its establishment in 1970. In line with its commitment to “environmentally friendly production”, İsdemir continues to reduce its carbon footprint and remains one of the most important representatives of the global iron and steel sector, a cornerstone of industry and development.

With its modern production facilities, environmentally friendly technologies, and high-quality products, İsdemir has become a leader in the iron and steel sector. The company boasts a final product capacity of approximately 5.8 million tons of liquid steel per year, 3.5 million tons of flat products, 0.6 million tons of coils, and 2.5 million tons of billets annually. At İsdemir, products such as billets, coils, hot roll, and slabs are manufactured, and by-products including coke, oxygen, nitrogen, argon, ammonium sulfate, granulated slag, tar, and benzol are also produced.

Goal: Net Zero Emissions by 2050

In early 2024, alongside Erdemir, İsdemir announced its Net Zero Roadmap, outlining the green transformation steps that will shape its future. Erdemir and İsdemir aim to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, with interim targets to reduce carbon emissions per ton by 25% by 2030 and 40% by 2040, based on 2022 levels.

To achieve these goals, Erdemir and İsdemir will invest $3.2 billion by 2030 to reduce carbon emissions per ton of crude steel produced by at least 25%. Part of these investments includes installing a solar power plant (SPP) with an annual electricity generation capacity of 1.71 million MWh. These investments will also boost the crude steel production capacity of Erdemir and İsdemir to 13 million tons by the end of 2030.

Ongoing investments to keep pace with transformation

In addition to its significant contributions to the national industry and İskenderun, İsdemir continues to invest in order to keep pace with the rapid transformation of the iron and steel industry. In 2024, İsdemir commissioned a Vacuum Degassing Plant with an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tons through a $79.5 million investment and continues assembly and testing work for its 1st Blast Furnace investment.
